1. Research and list out the Keywords:

Search engine optimization is not just a digital marketer’s job. The web designer should go through the list of Keywords before designing the website.
Going through the Keywords helps you understand what your client’s customers are expecting in the search results. Doing a bit of Keyword research before web designing will help you understand who you are designing the website for and for what reasons.

 

2. Site Speed

A visually appealing website which does not load quickly results in high bounce rates causing a loss of traffic. With so many choices, visitors do not spend more time on a website that loads slowly. Avoid complex codes, reduce redirects, and optimize the images to ensure optimum site speed.

 

3. Accessibility:

If you are targeting the local business, then you can have the country specific domain name. Otherwise, you can use descriptive URL related to the content on the website. The best practice is to use “-“ to separate the titles. You can use the stop words such as “and, or, nut, the, etc.” (Lower case). Ensure your URL is meaningful but not too lengthy.

 

6. Formatting H tags

Imagine reading an article where the heading and the description do not add up, the write-up will make no sense at all. Similarly, search engines review a web page before ranking it for search results, thus making it necessary to have organized content on the page. It is preferable that you use high search volume keywords to describe the page title using H1 tags. Sub-headers can be defined using H2, H3 and H4 tags, however, H4 tags are rarely used in practice.

 

7. Image optimization

Simply publishing a well-written content doesn’t create much of an impact. It’s important to create compelling images that complement the content. Images on the website should bear a description, preferably the keyword (also known as Alt text) and should be consistent with the content.

 

8. Content

As mentioned earlier, the content and web design should be seamlessly integrated. It is important for the web designers and content writers to be on the same page during the development process. It is imperative that the content writer ideates and generates unique content that converts visitors into leads.
It is advisable that the images on the website are compressed without compromising on the quality to have faster-loading pages.

 

9. Responsive design

An average internet user, accesses a website through a minimum of three devices, with different screen resolutions and dimensions. While designing a website, it is important that your design is compatible with most commonly used screen sizes and the resolutions.

10. Site maps

Sitemaps help search engines classify the information on the website. A sitemap is a tool used to plan and organize the pages on the website in a hierarchical fashion.

It is a code in semantic vocabulary which you are expected to index in your website to help the search engines return informative results for the users.
